Call for 2015 Paint the Town Plein Air Artists
Plein air artists are invited to participate in the 6th Annual “Paint the Town” to be held Thursday, April 23 through Sunday, April 26 in Chestertown, MD. Registration is limited to the first 50 entrants, so please complete your forms now.
This fun-filled four-day event is held on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and it will be packed with beautiful venues, good food, and lots of camaraderie. Chestertown and its surrounding areas offer a wide range of subjects, including historic streetscapes, water views, gardens, rural farms, and a colorful outdoor Farmers Market. ( Some covered venues will be identified in case of inclement weather.) Local restaurateurs also host the popular Taste of the Town in Fountain Park on Sunday.
RiverArts’ non-juried event is open to plein air artists painting in all media and includes dinner for all artists Friday evening, “Wet Paint” exhibition and sale on Saturday evening and a two-hour “Quick Draw” paint out on Sunday morning. Prizes will be awarded at both exhibits. This year, artists will also be invited to submit ‘minis’ (no more than 5” x 7”) for a silent auction.
Hai-Ou Hou, our “Quick Draw” judge, was born in Beijing where she received her B.F.A from Central Institute of Fine Art and Design. She earned her M.F.A. from Towson State University. She taught at the Hubei Fine Art Institute, China. She is currently owner and director of the Chesapeake Fine Art Studio.
Hai-Ou has developed a strong expressive style which she teaches at Chesapeake Fine Art Studio weekly.
Hai-Ou is a Signature Member of both the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters’ Association and the American Impressionist Society. She is also a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Her work is widely represented in commercial galleries and is included in many public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. She has received numerous awards and honors through participation in art events and exhibitions.
Participation in ‘Paint the Town’ is on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry fee is $40.00. Out of town artists may be housed with local residents on request. We hope you will join the many who return year after year, some coming from as far away as California!
Registration is considered complete when RiverArts is in receipt of both entry form and payment. You can register and pay online, or mail the entry form and payment to Chestertown RiverArts, 315 High Street, Suite 106, Chestertown, MD 21620. Check should be made payable to “RiverArts.”
