RiverArts Seeks Clay Studio Manager

RiverArts is seeking a part-time Clay Studio Manager to oversee all operations of the Clay Studio including developing classes and programming, maintaining the studio, supervising volunteers, and developing and administering the budget. A full job description can be found below.

The RiverArts Clay Studio is located at The Arts at Still Pond in Worton and offers a variety of clay classes throughout the year. RiverArts Clay Studio Manager Job Description

The RiverArts Clay Studio Manager oversees all operations of the Clay Studio including developing classes and programming, maintaining the studio, supervising volunteers, and developing and administering the budget.  The Clay Studio Manager is a contractual part time position that reports to the RiverArts Executive Director.

Development of Classes and Programs

  • Collaborate with the regular clay studio instructors and the clay studio task force to set up the class schedule and develop new classes and workshops
  • Recruit instructors for additional clay studio classes for adults and for students
  • Prepare instructor agreements for clay classes and workshops to be submitted to the education chair
  • Orient instructors to the clay studio and assist them in having the necessary equipment or supplies ready for their classes
  • Provide descriptions of clay studio classes to be used for promotion purposes
  • Develop special events as appropriate
  • Coordinate open studio

Studio Maintenance

  • Organize the studio for efficiency of use
  • Load, fire and unload kilns
  • Pug clay
  • Keep the studio clean
  • Prepare glazes
  • Maintain working order of equipment
  • Purchase, order and receive clay, glaze, tools and other supplies
  • Research and recommend the purchase of new equipment through the treasurer
  • Receive, install or oversee installation of any new equipment
  • Dispose of trash in an environmentally appropriate manner

Coordination of Volunteers

  • Recruit and organize volunteers to help with the clay studio
  • Summarize hours and tasks that volunteers have worked at the studio

Administration and Reporting

  • Develop an annual clay studio budget that projects revenue above costs, submit a quarterly budget update to the executive director as well as a program report summarizing clay studio classes and activities
  • Involve the regular teaching staff and other stakeholders in programming and studio decisions through quarterly meetings.  Communicate board decisions about the clay studio to the regular teaching staff at the clay studio in a timely manner
  • Submit a monthly work log with hours and tasks completed to the executive director
  • Organize, summarize, and transfer to RiverArts all monies taken in for open studio, clay purchases and glazing/firing on a weekly basis
  • Other tasks as assigned by the executive director
