Artist’s Contract for Exhibitions

RiverArts announces its annual non-juried judged show, “The Artist’s Touch” opening First Friday June 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and running until June 28.  This is a non-themed show open to all artists over the age of 18 working in original painting or sculpture.  Artists may submit two works of art properly framed and wired for hanging.  If there are unusual accommodations needed to exhibit the sculpture, please contact RiverArts.  Submitted works must have been completed within the past two years and not previously exhibited at RiverArts.  First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in both painting and sculpture.  Presentation of awards will be at 6:00 pm during the opening reception on June 5th.

“The Artist’s Touch” exhibit showcases the participants’ best work reflecting how the artists express their view of the world. The show will feature original sculpture and original works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, and egg tempera.

RiverArts is pleased to announce that “The Artist’s Touch” will be judged by Barbara Nuss.  Barbara is a well-known artist, writer, and educator.   She has exhibited throughout the US and in Europe, including solo exhibitions in Washington, D.C. and New York.  Recently two of her paintings exhibited at Arti e Amicitiae in Amsterdam, Holland.  Barbara has written for North Light books and for The Artist Magazine; see her latest article in the Jan/ Feb issue.  Her awards are too numerous to print here but readers are encouraged to visit her website at

Check-in is Sunday, May 31 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and Monday, June 1 from 10:00 to 1:00.

Thank you for your interest in participating in a RiverArts Gallery Exhibition. Hanging fees for regular exhibitions are $10 per piece for members, $20 for non-members. Your membership must be up to date to qualify for the member rate. Please call the Gallery during regular hours (Tues.-Fri., 11 am-4 pm) to check membership status.

Artists must agree to the following when submitting work to be entered in a RiverArts Gallery Exhibition:

Memorandum of Understanding
• I understand that Chestertown RiverArts will handle the sale of the work, charge the appropriate sales tax, and divide the sale 65% to the artist and 35% to Chestertown RiverArts. *Please note this when pricing items.

• I agree to keep the works on display at the Chestertown RiverArts gallery for the full length of the exhibition and will be responsible for picking up the work on the scheduled pick-up dates or making an alternative arrangement when special circumstances apply.

• During the time my work remains at Chestertown RiverArts, I agree that Chestertown RiverArts will not be responsible for any damage to the work not covered under Chestertown RiverArts’ existing insurance, and agree that this insurance only covers the cost of the materials and not the perceived value of the work.

• I agree that any other type of insurance for these works of art (i.e. perceived value) may be carried by me at my own discretion and cost.

This contract should be completed in advance of bringing your art to be hung in a RiverArts Gallery Exhibition.
