Laura was introduced to the world of ceramics while studying at the University of Delaware. Her earlier work was primarily utilitarian, slip decorated redware, using traditional techniques such as sgraffito, marbling and trailing and greatly influenced by Pennsylvania Dutch potters of prior centuries. After a long hiatus, her hands and heart are back in clay, spending quality time at the RiverArts Clay Studio. She enjoys exploring new glazes, textures and forms, in combination with traditional techniques. Laura’s greatest influences come from a love of nature, and a connection to the rivers, estuaries and open water, experienced while kayaking.
