Rich Smoker

Rich Smoker started carving in the late 1960’s with his father,when they made a rig of decoys to hunt over.

The making of decoys has led to a career of both carving and teaching professionally. In competitions he has won over 500 ribbons and over 100 Best of Shows, Along with a Best in World and a Third Best in World titles. He has been named a Living Legend by the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art. Inducted into The Hall of Fame at the Waterfowl Festival, Easton,Md. Where he has been twice named The Masterpiece Carver. An ALTA lifetime achievement award presented by Maryland Traditional Arts. Heritage Award winner of the Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Council.

Smoker divides his time now between carving and  teaching others the joy of making birds and decoys with a joy of promoting the art form as Vice Chairman of the Ward Museum, Board of Directors.
