Trip to the American Visionary Art Museum with founder Rebecca Hoffberger
Join RiverArts on Friday, May 15, for a bus trip to the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore.
Cost for the trip (Price includes transportation, driver tip and museum entry):
$75 for RiverArts members
$95 for nonmembers
Reservation deadline is May 11. Only 23 seats available.
We will tour the mega-exhibition, “THE SECRET LIFE OF EARTH: Alive! Awake! (and possibly really Angry!)” with founder, director and curator Rebecca Hoffberger.
This captivating exhibition is described by Hoffberger as, “one part visual earth love-fest, and two parts environmental crash course on the wonders and interdependent fragility of life,” combining alternative perspectives of visionary artists with input from top global earth science researchers and indigenous land stewards.
Conceived by Hoffberger in 1984 as a museum and education center emphasizing intuitive creative invention and grassroots genius, AVAM is a museum experience unlike any other. She defines visionary art as “art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself,” described by Jim Dissette of The Chestertown Spy as “rowdy, poignant, haunting and joyous.”
Following the tour you will have free time to explore all exhibits in the museum’s three-building campus, which includes a garden and zany Sideshow shop.
Visit the AVAM website: http://www.avam.org
