A four-week intensive course for intermediate wheel-throwing with a focus on non-functional purposes. We will be making objects with a non-utilitarian perspective as a way of re-thinking the functional. Each week we will address a new theme of tableware: cups, bowls, plates—objects of the commonplace within our homes. We will explore an array of throwing techniques such as trimming, handles, lids, spouts, knobs, throwing off the hump, composite-building, altering, throwing in sections, and more. We will discuss aspects and approaches of scale, design, construction, and glazing throughout the process. Lastly, we will conclude in the final week with a personal project of choice that celebrates in our spirit of dysfunction.
Included in the course is 25# of std 112 or std 308 (you may purchase little loafers, or std 266 for an additional $3 or English porcelain for $10) and 8 open studio tickets, a $102 value.
