Intermediate Pastels with Mary Pritchard – Surface Quality (Early April)
April 1 @ 9:00 am - April 3 @ 4:00 pm
The quality of the surface in a pastel painting can make or break the success of the work. In this innovative new workshop from pastel artist and popular workshop instructor Mary Pritchard, students will step back from “making pictures” right away and instead will focus on experimenting with new techniques for handling pastel. They will explore a variety of pastel surfaces, both “off the shelf” and custom made in class.
As part of the process, students will underpaint, add pastel and remove it with a variety of tools, review traditional application methods and try some unusual ones. Students will then create paintings using both traditional and innovative techniques, with the goal of gaining a fresh perspective on their pastel work.
Student level: Advanced beginner and above. (Not an intro workshop. Students must have some experience with pastels.)
Student supplies: Students bring their pastels and support boards (several foam core boards preferred), aprons, tape, etc. Instructor supplies all painting surfaces.
Materials fee: $20 paid to instructor.
We are sorry, but this class is full. There is still room in the 2nd session of Intermediate Pastels on April 15-17
