Call for Plein Air Artists and Photographers for RiverFest Competition
Registration is now closed.
Chestertown RiverArts invites plein air artists and photographers to capture the events and compete for prizes at the first annual RiverFest on Saturday, September 26 at Wilmer Park along the Chester River waterfront.
Plein air artists are invited to participate in a RiverFest Wet Paint Competition from events of the afternoon. Paintings must be ready to be judged by 5:00 and prizes will be awarded by 5:30. Artists can enter two paintings for the competition and may sell any of their work to interested buyers.
Photographers are invited to submit three entries from RiverFest activities during the day and evening for the Photography Competition. They must email or upload their digital images to RiverArts by midnight on Monday, September 28. The top three photographs will receive prizes, and all entries will be shown on the RiverArts website.
Chestertown RiverArts, Washington College Center for Environment & Society and SandBox are launching RiverFest, a new, annual event that will include an afternoon festival at Wilmer Park, water activities and the lighting of a large, floating, solar-powered sculpture at sunset.
Beginning at noon, Wilmer Park on the Chestertown waterfront will be filled with music, activities for families including the Phillips Wharf Fish Mobile; a Sun, Sail and Paddle Expo displaying kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboards and day sailors as well as accessories by manufacturers and local distributors; art and environmental displays; and good food and drink.
At the end of Wilmer Park on the Chester River, kayaks and canoes will compete in races, the Sultana will be under sail for two public sails, the CES research vessel, the Callinectes, will take folks out on the water and the college will host its 9th annual cardboard boat regatta, a hilarious event where most boats are under water within the first three minutes of launching.
For photographers, the competition can extend into the evening as the SANDBOX and RiverArts create a dramatic lighting of a twenty foot, floating sculpture designed by Vicco von Voss . The solar powered sculpture will light up as the sun goes down and the full moon rises over the eastern shore of the Chester River.
