Sept. Gift Shop Artist of the Month

Cindy Stafford

Cindy fell in love with watercolors during a high school art class and has wanted to paint ever since then. However, her strong desire to understand and help others drove her to attain a BA in Sociology and an MA in Psychology, both at Washington College. After mini-careers as an elementary school teacher, hospital social worker, and quality assurance coordinator all on the Eastern Shore, she moved to Philadelphia and worked as a program director for the American College of Physicians.
After 20 years in the city, she knew it was time to return to the Eastern Shore and pursue her dream of painting with watercolors. Gaining the benefit of attending a few workshops at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and taking some classes with Linda Hall, she is now on a journey of discovery on her own. She paints things and places that move her, especially those Mother Nature has created. She is always trying new approaches, finding out how brush, water, paint, and paper interact. She likes to paint on watercolor paper, yupo  (plastic sheeting) and clay board. Her work is representational, usually done on small pieces with fine brushwork. At least for now; she expects her journey will take her to many other vistas.
