Description:In the first class she will teach us how to do the basic brush work on paper. Each of the next three classes will focus on one of the classic Sumi subjects, Bamboo, Orchid, and Chrysanthemum, which we will paint with underglaze on white leather hard stoneware clay tiles and two lowfire bisqueware plates. Tiles and plates will be provided, but potters are encouraged to create pieces to paint during the workshop. Additional lowfire bisqueware plates will be available for purchase. Students will need practice rice paper and the brushes “Happy Dot” and “Flow”. These will be provided for purchase at the beginning of class. The cost of additional supplies will be approximately $40 per student

About the Instructor:

Sihnja has taught watercolor painting and Oriental brush painting since 1985. She has exhibited her work at Carla Massoni Gallery, Easton Academy Museum, Ocean City Arts League, and many more. She has participated in group exhibits at Baltimore Watercolor Society, Sumner Museum in Washington DC, Torpedo Factory in Virginia, CIA. She also exhibited in the American Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil and the American Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine as part of the Art in Embassies program.

Sihnja’s enthusiasm for cooking, bonsai art, opera, and travel are all elements of her creative process.
