Talavera is a decorative pottery tradition found primarily in Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and Mexico. In the Talavera decoration workshop students will learn the primary drawing and painting techniques for talavera decoration: lines, brushstrokes, colors, etching, etc. The workshop will consist of a series of basic exercises on paper and pottery, as well as some brief background and context. Students will be encouraged to adapt techniques to their own styles and skill levels. We will provide pottery for students to decorate and/or we invite you to bring pottery of your own as well. The class is open to all experience levels.
Fredy Granillo worked for more than 15 years in a Talavera style ceramics workshop in El Salvador, Central America. He holds a B.A. in ceramics from the National University of El Salvador.
